Cleveland's economic policies would prove his political undoing. He was unseated by Republican Benjamin Harrison. The only president to marry in the White House, Cleveland took his twenty-two year old ward, Frances Folsom, as his bride. As the Clevelands prepared to leave the White House in 1889, the popular first lady told the staff to take care of the home. She said she and the president would be returning in four years time.
